WIC CERTIFYING HEALTH
PROFESSIONAL
Target Audience:
State and local agency personnel working as Nutritionists, Dietitians, or Registered Nurses and will hold the job title of Certifying Health
Professional (CHP) in the WIC program
Course Length: 3 days
Course Description:
This training will provide a comprehensive view of the role of the CHP. The course includes: Anthropometrics, Diet Assessment, Risk
Identification, Counseling, Documentation, and Food Package Prescription.
Performance Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the recommended procedures to use when obtaining
anthropometric measurements
- Assess diets using appropriate tools
- Assign risk factor(s) and priorities on an individualized basis
- Explain the procedure for prescribing non-contract and special
formulas
- Develop a nutrition care plan using the SAP method of
documentation
- Counsel based on Best Practices guidelines
