WIC HIGH RISK PARTICIPANT TRAINING

THIS CURRICULUM IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN A WEB BASED FORMAT

Target Audience: 
State and local agency personnel working as Nutritionists, Dietitians, or Registered Nurse and hold the job tile of Certifying Health Professional (CHP) in the WIC Program.  In order to participate in this training, staff must have attended and successfully completed the WIC Certifying Health Professional Training. 
Course Length: Eleven web based modules
Course Description:  
This curriculum was designed as a review of high risk information for prenatal and child participants in the WIC Program
Performance Objectives:
Upon completion of this curriculum, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a better understand of WIC nutrition risk factors with emphasis on high risk prenatal clients
  • Understand the importance of addressing high risk in pregnancy and the associated outcomes
  • Address weight status and weight gain for the high risk prenatal client
  • Use counseling techniques that focus on the high risk prenatal client
  • Assess, determine risks and provide counseling for prenatal clients who smoke
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the growth related risks for infants and children
  • Address the importance of screening, associated risks and recommendations for anemia and elevated blood lead levels for infants and children
  • Provide information regarding a child at risk for being or becoming overweight
  • Understand underweight and other nutrition related high risk in infants and children
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to provide counseling for children with high risk growth related concerns
